The Rain Theatre

This performance was conceived with the Mandarina Collective as a multi-sensorial experience targeted to children aged 3-
8 accompanied by an adult. It aims to bring the science of cloud formation and rain making
closer to such young audiences. We believe in the format 1 child + 1 adult in order
to create spaces for families and intergenerational bridges through experiences enjoyable
by everybody. We invite not only parents but grandparents, older siblings, uncles/aunts...
to join children in this journey that combines participatory science experimentation,
storytelling and visual and sound arts.
During the performance we ask children and adults to engage, empathise and help to restore
the unbalance created by humans in the Amazon and bring the rain back.
The Rain Theatre was performed in Portuguese and Spanish and premiered in the context
of Kolibri Festivaali 2020 in Sello Library (Espoo) and Malmitalo (Helsinki) and it was also
performed in English at Oodi Central Library (Helsinki) for Pixelache Festival 2021, at
Kansalaisopiston teatteriluokka (Salo) and Galleria Bokvillan & Kääntöpaikka (Helsinki) in
October 2021, and opened the 2022 program of MadHouse (Helsinki).
We love to perform for diverse audiences and we strongly believe that language barriers can
be avoided if the proper approach is taken.
