Winter's Silence

Mareike Dobewall's work brings sound and scientific inquiry together. Musica Mundana (2021), a spatial sound performance for 11 voices, 3 percussionists and R1, Stockholm's former nuclear reactor hall, was developed on site with the musicians and informed by collaboration with astrophysicists. Venusmusic (2025), performed by 100 female voices at the opening of ABOAGORA, the University of Turku's festival between arts and sciences, draws on scientific observation, mythology and feminist thought to give voice to Venus, challenging its reputation as Earth's "evil twin." Winter's Silence (2026), for vocal ensemble and funded by the Kone Foundation, was composed from scientific data, conversations with experts in winter and forest ecology, and immersion in the Finnish winter; an album is due in November 2026.
