I utilize can-tabs in a way that rescripts the original intention of their branding. The can-tabs in my sculptures are no longer in service to consumerism. In their new incarnation, they have a baroque, upcycled, aesthetic that playfully transcends the utility of the can-tab. When this suspended sculpture, which is a dimensional mandala, made from thousands of reflective can-tabs begins to rotate slowly, shimmering moiré patterns appear and soothe with soft glimmers, activating a visual sensory experience that brings us back to our center. Sensory experiences quell anxiety, awaken our sense of wonder, and provide a healing counterpoint to our reality of overstimulation.
