Lintukoto is an immersive audio installation of bamboo, ash branches and bird nests, named after the mythical haven in Finnish folklore where migrating birds were believed to spend the winter. Small speakers hidden in the nests carry testimonies from people with lived experience of forced displacement, woven into dawn and dusk birdsong and the underground sounds of bamboo roots. Supported by Arts Council England, the Finnish Institute, the Natural History Society of Northumbria, the Hancock natural history museum and the NewBridge Gallery, Newcastle.
