I am a professor of Biology and Mycology at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, in Brazil. I am a researcher and professor at the graduate program in Biology of Fungi, Algae and Plants and the curator of the Fungarium FLOR. My research involves diversity and evolution of mushrooms and other fungi, with emphasis on ectomycorrhizae. I have been teaching at the undergrad and graduate levels for over 10 years and in the last years I am also working with schoolteachers. I founded the first mycological foray in Brazil, the Rick Foray, and have outreach projects involving arts and artists and anyone interested in natural history. As an artist I make embroideries and sow pieces inspired by mushrooms and natural history. I received my PhD from CUNY and the NYBG in 2007.
