We are witnessing the most astounding change in ‘being-human’ through contemporary space exploration, astronomy and environmental issues. As an award-winning artist based in the UK, I create visionary work inspired by 21st century space exploration and NASA’s Moon/Mars missions. These artworks are large paintings, ‘Smart’ costumes and experimental books. Under the auspices of ‘The Human Spaceship’, I invent geometric optical illusions to manipulate colour, form and light, creating destabilising images representing altered gravity conditions. These depict invented spaceships, habitats and landscapes, using vast repeated geometric/mathematical patterns. My pioneering STEAM work has won awards from ESA, IAU and 3 Arthur C Clarke Awards, partnering with STFC, IoP, RAS, ISU, museums, festivals and schools. In 2019, I met human spaceflight scientists at NASA’s JSC, and presented at 2022/2023 NASA HRP (Moon/Mars conferences). Being twice awarded the Pollock Krasner Foundation grant and other fellowships, has enabled residencies in Europe, Canada, Cuba and USA.
